Is Your Brain Being a Jerk?

Your life will always drift toward your most repeated thoughts.

Sunday we began our "Jerky Brain" series, if you missed it you can check it out HERE!

We left Sunday with an assignment to do two different things:

  1. Identify a thought pattern that isn't healthy.

  2. Combat that unhealthy thought pattern with truth.

Have you ever tried this? Like have you ever seriously been intentional to change what you think about? It is an interesting process! Definitely possible. Absolutely not easy. But it is like exercise, it gets easier the more you do it.

I can tell you this, your brain won't like it. Your body might not even like it. When you work to change how you think about something your brain is used to thinking, it won't feel good. You can expect to experience some pain and discomfort. Sometimes pain is good.

What we all know is true is this: change won't happen automatically. God leaves it up to us to ask for His help, look into His Word for truth, and press into some grit sometimes when things are difficult. Changing to become more like Jesus is always worth it. It makes us healthier, helps us know God more, and allows us to love others better.

Romans 12:2 Donโ€™t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know Godโ€™s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

What can we do?

  1. Identify something you think too much about and isn't helpful.

  2. Find a truth in the bible to think about instead.

I can promise you this: You won't regret the life change this can lead to. You won't regret learning an intentional process to decide what you think about. In the months and years ahead, you'll be happy you started!

Your life will always drift toward your most repeated thoughts. ๏ปฟ
