A Whole Heart - Connor Mayes

One of the most annoying things in the world is when you have something in your shoe and you keep stepping on it. If you are like me, you try to ignore it until it “magically falls out”. It gets to the point where you step on it over and over again with the final straw being it piercing your skin.

You then find a spot to sit down, rip off your shoe and violently shake it to remove this evil device of torture. After this attempt proves unsuccessful, you are forced to take the time to sit down and actually search for it, thus resulting in an ‘evil-device-free’ shoe.

Today I want you to take a look at your life and find the rock in your shoe.

Often times, our brokenness can be very obvious and stick out like a sore thumb. In other cases, our brokenness shows up like a rock in the shoe that we try to ignore. The God of the Bible is a God of redemption; a God who heals, and a God who has a whole heart. The cross of Jesus offers the opportunity for us to have a whole heart, too. Healing of our brokenness can be tricky and often a subtle journey.

So let’s just start simple:
Today I want you to find the rock in your shoe.
Pray and ask God: what is the brokenness that you have been hanging onto instead of handing it over to Him. Take time today. Seriously, take time.
God wants your brokenness because He knows that He is the only one that can repair it and make you whole again.

David in his Psalms is constantly bringing the depth of his pain before the Lord in full authenticity and honesty:

“My tears have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
’Where is your God?’”

Take David as the example of a person who stopped walking, found a seat, and took off his shoe to remove the painful item from it. God is not scared of your brokenness because He already knows it. He has made a way for you to hand over your brokenness to Him.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 42

Spiritual Practice

Once you read this Psalm, take a few deep breaths in silence with The Lord.
Now ask The Lord “Where is my brokenness?”
Write down what comes to your mind no matter what you see.
Bring it to Him in prayer.
