Day 2 - A Ready Heart

A Ready Heart - Lindsey Lautsbaugh
Imagine going on a first date and your date never said a word. Or perhaps they did talk but it was a mixture of inaudible mumbling and whispering. Hopefully, the food was amazing. There is very little chance a second date will be happening. Even if you are comfortable with silence, a mute date is a disappointment at least. A disaster at worst.
Communication is essential to knowing someone. Perhaps even starting to love them. It is definitely essential to building a life with them.
How is your communication with God? When is the last time you felt you heard his voice? What do you long for or need to hear from Him?
Without communication, there is no relationship. Without communication from God, there is no way of knowing Him and being known by Him.
In Psalm 40:6 there is an unassuming phrase: “You do not delight in sacrifice and offering; you open my ears to listen.”
David says God “opens his ears” to hear from Him. Most Bible translators use some form of “you open my ears” because the original Hebrew is a little interesting to American English speakers. The Hebrew literally says, “ears you have dug for me.” It is like a pick ax striking into hard ground or granite. A shovel digging into the soil.
“Ears you have dug for me to listen”
David has this revelation. He needs to hear from God, but the key is not his own ability to hear.
The foundation of hearing God is God’s ability to dig a hole in his head to make sure the words are heard.
Even if we feel a little hard-headed or deaf, God can dig a hole in our head for us to hear Him.
Our ability to hear God is not as important as His ability to enable us to hear His voice. To understand His Word. To sense His prompting. See His guidance.
If needed, He digs ears into our head so we can hear.
How is your communication with God? When is the last time you felt you heard his voice?
What do you long for or need to hear from Him?
Come expectant to hear from Him in fresh ways because your faith is set on Him. Even if you are a little hard of hearing, He will dig your ears to hear Him. He is present and He is not silent.
Bring yourself to Him with faith that He will speak and dig your ears to hear.
